MVHS A.M. Car Rider Drop-Off Instructions
The high school pickup and drop-off lots are located east of the tennis courts. A median divides the lot into two zones. Zone one is on the east side of the lot and will be populated with cars first. Zone two is on the west side of the lot and will be used later in the protocol for single-file curbside drop-off. The bus lot is adjacent to these zones. Crosswalks will be utilized to ensure the safe passage of students at both ends of the lot. Please give all pedestrians the right of way when present.
At 8:15 A.M., students will be released en masse by a school official from zone one. Students will exit their vehicles, utilize the sidewalks, and walk toward doors 16 and 17. The high school's doors will open to students at 8:15 A.M.
Newly arriving cars will be directed to populate zone two in a single-file line. Once your car is safely parked in zone two and it is past 8:15 A.M., you may release your student curbside onto the sidewalk.
Once all students are clear from zone one, a school official will systematically release the cars from that zone onto 200 West. As a reminder, cars must turn right (south) when exiting on 200 West.
Simultaneously, zone two’s single-file cars will be releasing their students curbside near the tennis courts. Once zone one is clear, zone two cars will begin exiting.
Mt. Vernon High School officially begins at 8:35 A.M. If students are not dropped off and in the building by 8:33 A.M., they will need to go to the front office and will be counted tardy. Please plan accordingly and arrive early to avoid tardiness.

The pickup line will open at 2:45 P.M. Please do not begin arriving before this, as it will disrupt building operations.
Cars will enter the central Intermediate School entrance and drive around to the pickup lot east of the tennis courts. As you arrive, begin filling zone one in three columns. When one column fills, begin a new one.
At 3:30 P.M., students will be released to exit the high school. They will enter the car lot and begin entering their vehicles. If possible, please communicate your approximate location in the lot with your student.
Once all students are safely secured in their vehicles, zone one will be systematically released by a school official. Cars will exit on 200 West and must turn right (south).
Once all students are securely in their vehicles in zone one, a school official will systematically release the cars from that zone onto 200 West.
Simultaneously, zone two’s single-file cars will be parking curbside and waiting for their students to enter their vehicles near the tennis courts. Once zone one is clear, zone two cars will begin exiting.
If you have your student in your car and zone one has cleared, you will be allowed to cautiously exit the pickup area. This process is similar to what you might see at an airport, where people are picked up after their flights—but our process is much more regulated for the safety of our students.
As cars exit the pickup line, cars should logically pull forward to reduce gaps in the area. This will speed up the dismissal process. This process will continue until all students are picked up from the sidewalk.
