History has shown that students who participate in extra-curricular activities improves academically, adjusts better socially, and enjoys school more. Participation in extracurricular activities such as athletics, the arts and band is highly encouraged.
Success is defined here as providing a positive experience that builds students' character, helps identify strengths and enriches the students' lives.
At the beginning of the school year, an activities calendar is established on a monthly basis, designation the meeting days for all of the clubs and organizations at Mt. Vernon. All activities and sales campaigns by these clubs and organizations must be cleared through the main office and placed on the master calendar. A few of the clubs and organizations have certain requirements which limit membership; however, most of them are open to all students who express an interest in the activity. Students are encouraged to listen for announcements concerning organizational meetings at the beginning of the year for theses various clubs. Club meetings are held during SRT when possible, and/or before or after school.
Each club must have a lead teacher or advisor, and each year paperwork must be submitted within the first and third terms for approval. MVHS Club/Activity Proposal Form.
