PSAT/NMSQT

All MVHS sophomores take the PSAT in the fall semester, and the fee is paid for by the State of Indiana. Students also have the opportunity to pay for the test and take it again as a junior. The PSAT measures critical reading, math solving, and writing skills. Results from this test are helpful in determining academic strengths, predicting future performance on college admissions tests, and for helping students focus on areas where they may need additional practice to be successful on future standardized tests. Additionally, the PSAT gives you an opportunity to enter the National Merit Scholarship Competition (NMSC) as a junior. Any sophomore who scores in the upper 60's or higher on the PSAT should consider taking it again their junior year to enter the NMSC. Regardless of score, all college-bound juniors are encouraged to take the PSAT as a junior for extra SAT preparation.

CORE 40 End-of-Course Assessments (ECAs)

• Passing the Algebra I and English 10 assessments (or qualifying for a GQE waiver) will meet the graduation testing requirement for students in the class of 2012 and beyond. Students enrolled in Biology also take the Bio ECA, but are not currently required to pass Biology to graduate.

• ECAs are administered when the student completes the course. They are course-specific and assess the student’s mastery of the Indiana Academic Standards for the entire course.

• Every student tested receives a comprehensive Individual Student Report showing overall student performance in terms of Pass+, Pass or Did Not Pass. The report also identifies specific areas of strength within the content area.

• Students who did not pass ECAs are entitled to extra help and instructional time to address any areas of need.
