Welcome Britt to Board

The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation (MVCSC) Board of Trustees is pleased to announce Meghan Britt’s appointment to fill the vacant board seat amidst a highly competitive applicant pool. Britt will fill the remainder of Tony May’s term, extending through the 2024 calendar year.

Lilly endowment finalists

Mt. Vernon High School seniors Mya Adams and Misha Patel were selected as finalists for the Community Foundation of Hancock County’s (CFHC) annual Lilly Endowment scholarship. Each year, two seniors are selected from each of the four Hancock County high schools for this prestigious selection. Out of these eight seniors, two lucky students are chosen to receive the scholarship that pays for all four years of their college tuition in Indiana.

The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation Board of Trustees is announcing the resignation of Mr. Tony May, a dedicated trustee who has contributed significantly to the mission and growth of Mt. Vernon schools. After more than 11 years of school board service, May has decided to resign for personal health reasons. The MVCSC Board of Trustees express their profound gratitude for May’s selfless dedication and immeasurable value to the district.

Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation is proud to announce that Mt. Vernon High School (MVHS) has been ranked one of U.S. News & World Report’s “Best High Schools” for 2023. MVHS was named to the top 40% of the nation’s high schools and is now ranked 47th within Indiana and 16th in the Indianapolis metro area. The 2023 edition of Best High Schools includes a numerical ranking of nearly all public high schools nationwide – almost 18,000 of them

HES-Accreditation

All five schools in the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation have earned a Highly Effective Schools Accreditation from Solution Tree. This accreditation is a significant achievement that reflects all five schools’ commitment to learning and maintaining the highest levels of educational quality. Mt. Vernon High School, Mt. Vernon Middle School, Fortville Elementary  School, McCordsville Elementary School, and Mt. Comfort Elementary School earned this accreditation by driving permanent, positive, and significant impacts on student achievement.

MVHS Hires Dr. Spangler

The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation (MVCSC) is pleased to announce that Mt. Vernon High School (MVHS) has hired Dr. Kathryn Spangler as the Director of Bands, pending MVCSC Board of Trustees’ approval on Monday, June 19. She comes to Mt. Vernon most recently from her role as the associate director of bands and director of athletic bands at Indiana State University. Dr. Spangler has a vast 25 years of experience leading music departments in K-12 public schools and higher education. 

Yi-Fan Lin, Mandarin Teacher, is awarded Lilly Teacher Creativity Grant

Ms. Yi-Fan Lin, a Mandarin teacher at Mt. Vernon High School, is one of two fortunate teachers in Hancock County to be awarded a Lilly Endowment Teacher Creativity Grant. This fellowship program provides a select few Indiana teachers up to $12,000 allowing them to explore new opportunities that will inspire them and help in their teaching career. Ms. Lin plans to travel to various Chinatowns across the United States to help her deeper understand her heritage as an Asian American and share her findings with students.

The 2021-2022 school year has reached its end and, the Mt. Vernon High School (MVHS) class of 2022 graduates celebrated with a commencement ceremony. Exactly 348 seniors were asked to walk across the stage to receive their diplomas, recounting all their hard work and dedication. Administrators and the School Board of Trustees then congratulated each graduate.
